What went wrong??

I always ask myself what went wrong with the England squad because I couldn't find any wrong in the team.
The best of the best are already picked from mostly the top four English clubs.
So what went wrong?
Why England still underperformed in the international competition?
Managers has changed from Sven to McClaren and to Capello. However, the squad is almost unchangeable.

Is there any wrong with it?
I don't know.
I think England have quite a solid back four- Wes Brown (right), Rio Ferdinand, John Terry (centre), Ashley Cole (right).

In midfield, I would go for David Bentley (right), David Beckham as sub. I still think Beck's set pieces are useful.
Owen Hargreaves (holding midfielder), Gareth Barry as sub.
Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard (centre). They have the skills and the experience. They are very influential in their clubs. It just that they failed to bring that to the international level.
Joe Cole (left). I don't understand why he always play as sub. He should start the match.
Aiks. I used 5 midfielders, meaning Wayne Rooney gotta play as lone striker?
Hmmm..... I prefer Rooney as the second forward behind a natural striker like Michael Owen.

Anyway, my whole point is, with all these great players who did so well with their clubs, why they couldn't play like how they played for their clubs?
What went wrong in the training camp?
What went wrong between them?

I wish I can transform myself to a butterfly and fly around the training ground to look if there is any problem -.-
